Yoga is a great way to get in shape and has many health benefits:
it stimulates the respiratory system by bringing fresh oxygen into the body;
it boosts the circulatory system by supplying oxygenated blood to all your vital organs;
it stimulates the digestive system by helping your body to metabolize foods more effectively;
it strengthens the immune system by moving lymph throughout the body;
it reduces stress and and lowers blood pressure, heart rate, and sugar levels;
it improves balance, coordination, and concentration;
it generates positive feelings of friendliness, compassion, and greater equanimity.
We are part of a growing group of people practicing yoga in the Lost River Valley in eastern West Virginia. This is our third year of operation. Classes are designed for people of all ages, shapes, and sizes. Most of our classes are geared toward beginning yoga students, but we also have classes for more experienced practitioners. We teach the basics of yoga poses, correct body alignment, techniques for yoga breathing, general anatomy and physiology, and the philosophy of yoga. We use safe teaching sequences designed to warm and open the body to promote strength, flexibility, and balance—always mindful of the need to avoid injury. We also teach ways to reduce stress and manage unhealthy feelings and behaviors.
